How to play Chess of Clans

Last updated

You build a village, and your buildings add chess pieces to your squad. Then you take that squad into raids, which you win by playing chess. Loot from raids pays for more upgrades, so your village and your squad grow together.

Your first few minutes

  1. Open the game. You don't need an account, and your village saves on your device.
  2. Tap the coin and marble bubbles over your Gold Mine and Marble Quarry to collect.
  3. Tap a building, then upgrade it. You have two builders, so two upgrades can run at once.
  4. Press Attack!, choose Campaign and start with Mossy Hollow.

How your squad grows

Your squad starts with 7 pieces and can grow to 13. Each building type adds a different piece.

BuildingWhat it adds
BarracksPawns, up to 5
StablesA second Knight at level 2
ChapelA second Bishop at level 2
Rook TowerA second Rook at level 2
KeepYour Queen at level 2. The Keep's level also caps your other buildings.

Campaign raids

The Campaign is five enemy villages. Each one has a single goal, and you earn up to 3 stars. The pieces move by the normal rules, and the enemy replies after every move. If you get stuck, the light bulb button suggests a move.

The Daily Puzzle

Each day there's one forced checkmate to find, in one or two moves. Solving it on consecutive days builds a streak, and a longer streak pays more gold and marble. Puzzles use classic ideas such as the back rank mate, the Arabian mate and Damiano's mate. You can play it as a guest.

What a free account adds

An account needs only a name and password, with no email. That means a lost password can't be reset, so keep it safe. Your guest village moves into the account when you sign up.

Crowns and leagues

Wins earn crowns, and crowns set your league: Wood, Bronze from 25 crowns, Silver from 100, Gold from 250, Crystal from 500 and Royal from 1,000. Leagues never affect your chess rating.

Clans

Clans hold up to 30 players. You can chat, ask for a Knight, Bishop or Rook, and donate pieces to clanmates, and donated pieces join your next raid. Clans also fight wars and boss sieges and build a shared Citadel.

Every clan has a short invite link. A friend who joins for the first time through your link gets a welcome Knight, and you get 300 gold and 200 marble.
